History was made in Festac on April 20,2013 @ Golden Tulip hotel where Nigerian music legends Ras kimono, Onyeka Onwenu, Bright Chimezie and King Sunny Ade were honored.
The icons were all honoured for their contributions to the growth of the music industry in Nigeria. All three of them were present except for KSA but Tony One-Week accepted it on his behalf. The legends were also honoured with return tickets to various european countries by Air France.
The crowd went ecstatic as Ras kimono aka the “rub a dub master” performed his hits tracks like under pressure and likkle sugar and one could not help but feel a sense of nostalgia
Next was the Elegant stallion herself Onyeka Onwenu. After accepting her award from Tuface, she pleaded that she wouldn’t be a ble to perform her songs as she did not come with her live band but DJ snoop immediately played her song” one love” and tuface encouraged her to sing while other artistes on stage joined. She also performed another hit track “You and I will live as one”
Finally Bright Chimezie aka the ziggy master took over the stage and performed his heart out. It was interesting to note that at his age, he still had the dance steps we knew him for back in the early 80’s and his love for ogbono soup still hasn’t changed.
In all, it was a great show, hosted by the comic trio of Ali Baba, Yaw and Okey Bakassi. A blend of the old and the new you might say, as it was thrilling to see Onyeka Onwenu performing with Tuface on stage. I was particularly impressed that now we honour our legends while they are alive not when till when they are dead.
Speaking of honouring our living artistes, I suggest the likes of Blackky and Orits Wiliki also be honoured. Can u guys think of more? Help me pls as you comment below……
Thats all for now guys. Stay tuned for more….and remember, “Every man will have his day someday”
