Pictures from PITA Live in Concert!…….and all the gist.
As I type away this post on my laptop, guess who my companion is? ………Its PITA’s latest album playing on my laptop. What better way to blog! so please bear with me if my mind occasionally wanders away to his track no. 3 “You don bless me” or track 5 “Light up my world”, that’s after I recover from the fast-beat action-sounding track 2 “Imela remix”. If you loved the original Imela done by Pita, just wait till you hear the remix on the new album. Ok…ok enough about the amazing album for now, lets talk about the event itself
June 30th finally came and PITA’s much awaited concert reverberated in the magnificent Victory Dome of David’s Christian Centre, Lagos. It was a night of divine spectacle. full of gospel glitz and glamour. It was a rainy sunday but even the rain knew it had to stop by 3 pm to make way for the gospel concert of the year. I got to the venue a few minutes past 4pm and the dome was already almost half-filled.
The show kicked off with the unmistakable voice of Lolo1 of wazobia FM behind the stage welcoming people to the event.
Shortly afterwards, the gospel acapella group IN HIS IMAGE kicked things off with soothing acapella renditions.
This was followed by the dramatic and energetic dance display by ALIEN NATION. Then two of the funniest personalities in gospel humour came on stage. It was the duo of SACO and MC Acapella who sent the crowd reeling with laughter.
When the duo were through, the two official hosts for the evening were revealed and they happen to be two top Radio Personalities in Lagos, Lolo 1 of Wazobia FM and Oscar of City FM.
By my judgement, they combined perfectly, a blend of tush Oscar and raw Lolo. The next artiste on stage was the gifted guitarist Gbolahan who did an impromptu performance stage due to a special request from PITA.
Then Palmira graced the stage and performed her hit track
Now, it was the time for the man of the Night to grace the stage. At this point, the venue was already packed full. PITA kicked his performance off with my one of my favourite tracks on the new album, “IMELA Remix”. The stage was electrified, the instrumentalists were charged, the audience were expectant and PITA didn’t disappoint.
He then gave a full account of his testimony and deliverance from a ghastly car accident early in the year. The crowd were moved as he testified, especially when he revealed that the good samaritan who came to his rescue was a coffin-maker. I guess you know how the story would have ended if the devil succeeded. PITA’s humorous angle came to the fore though when he introduced a little bit of THIS IS SUPER STORY ambience to his amazing testimony and he had the crowd reeling with laughter.
THE GUESTS
The concert was epoch-making by all standards and going by the category of guests who graced the occasion as well. Top on the list was her Excellency, the first Lady of Ogun state, Mrs Olufunso Amosun who came with some representatives of the Ogun state government.
Also, PITA”s Spiritual Parents and Senior Pastors Of David’s Christian Centre, Pastors Kingsley and Mildred Okonkwo were there
Here are others celebrities who attended……..
After PITA shared his testimony, he entered into a session of worship that was inexplicable. He had already set the tone for an atmosphere of worship with his testimony and before we knew it, he delved into an anointed worship medley that we weren’t even prepared for. As he worshipped, the presence of the Holy Spirit in the auditorium was so thick you could literarily cut it with a knife. Suddenly the crowd was locked into a beautiful experience of soul-rendering and heart-felt worship.
Pita churned out amazing worship songs I’ve never heard before and that was the beauty of it. Believe me you had to be there. As he sang “Jesus, odighi onye di ka gi (there is no one like you)”, I was mesmerized in worship and he then ministered “You are the air I breath, You are the Life I live, I worship you” and I lost it…….
Next on stage was Timi Dakolo and he just continued with the worship flow, singing a medley of select worship songs that sent the crowd exalting God and just when he thought he was through, Oscar of City FM refused to let him off the stage until he performed his hit track ONE NATION.
The adorable Lara George was up next. The beautiful singer was clad in a pretty orange dress along with her husband and after speaking about how she lost her father to cancer two months ago, she performed her new hit track DANSAKI. She also got everyone dancing when she performed her popular song HALLELUJAH. Again, she was about to leave the stage when the co-host lolo 1 of Wazobia FM insisted that she performs IJOBA ORUN for Her Excellency, the first Lady of Ogun state and she rose to the occasion.
Now for the last leg, PITA graced the stage again and this time he was ready to pull the house down with praise but before then , he appreciated everyone and called up his brother Idahosa to make a few statements.
Idahosa Linus spoke passionately about the need for gospel artistes to be properly honoured and remunerated and believe me he wasn’t just speaking empty words as he went ahead to launch PITA’s new album with…….wait for it……….. N2 million. What can I say! diligence pays. The album was now ready to be launched but not until Pastor Kingsley prayed over it and also blessed PITA
Now it was time to bring the concert to an end as PITA performed EBAMIRABABA with the beautiful songstress and guest artiste Olufunmi.
Also, Provabs joined PITA on stage for another hit track and then he also performed the track everyone had been waiting for, YOU LIGHT UP MY WORLD. At this time, I turned and looked around and the hall was still filled.
What better way to finally end the concert than with another hit-track from the album titled TWALE featuring IBK Spaceshipboi.
The song’s danceable beat got everyone on their feet praising God uncontrollably and people literarily danced home.
In the end, the concert was a huge success and the name of the Lord was glorified.
Congratulations PITA. As I always say, Every man will have his day. You just had yours.
