Sorry guys. I know this took long but I’ve been kinda incredibly busy these days. So busy that I didn’t even have the time to listen to Eben’s new album Justified”. That could also probably explain why it took me this long to write this post.
Well, guess what, I finally listened to the album in full today and ……my goodness, it was beyond my expectation.
However, let me run over the concert itself and how it all went
down……..er how it went up rather. Hehehehe. I did promise that JM Blog was gonna be there and bring you all the gist…..and pictures as well…..and I do not disappoint.
Its 4 pm and the magnificient Dome of Davids Christian centre is sprawling with activities preparatory to Eben’s much anticipated concert. The crowd trooped in from different corners of Lagos for what was undoubtedly expected to be a night where they were gonna go All the way with praise and resounding worship and what a night it was.
The concert kicked off with MC Acapella throwing the audience into laughter with his spontaneous jokes.
Then there were performances by Simply Micheal, Ray and MK. As expected, MK threw the crowd into a frenzy of unrestrained worship.
I guess it was his own way of letting people have taste a Sound of Heaven which happens to be the title of his up-coming concert (more gist about that soon).
While all this was going on, the man of the evening Eben arrived
and had to oblige journalists and some of his fans an interview or two on the red carpet outside the dome ……
and Bloggers too….
Also, other guest artistes gradually began to arrive……
Back inside, it was time to jump up and down a bit in praise to God and who better to do the Job than Eben’s side-kick (as I prefer to call him) Lord E. After two breath-taking praise songs the crowd were on their toes asking for more. I’ve always seen Lord E performing on stage with Eben but tonight afforded me and many others the opportunity to watch him perform his own tracks.
Next up was Liza C. The beautiful songstress tuned everyone back into the spirit with her touching single “I surrender”. Frankly speaking, I have heard the song a couple of times on air but never knew she was the voice behind it. Beautiful song!
Now it was time for the man the crowd had been waiting for. All the anxiety and expectations had heightened to its zenith. The stage was set and MC Ray did the honours. “Ladies and gentlemen, stand on your feet, put your hands together as we welcome a man that needs no introduction, EBEN!”
Eben, clad with a wine-cloured suit, mounted the stage and kicked things off. He performed various tracks from his newly released “Justified” album. I particularly loved the track “Supernatural life” which sent the crowd jumping up and down, reminiscent of a typical Darlene Zschech hilllsong conert in Australia. Then he sang his signature track “Imaranma Papa”. At this point, I really wished I could put down my camera and flow with the crowd. The things I do to get you guys all the good gist eh! Hmmmmm.
Next up, eben slowed the tempo a little bit and delved into worship. Unrestrained and raw worship. Guys, I mean it when I say this that I had never seen this side of Eben before. We’re all used to the regular jumping and swag but suddenly the atmosphere changed when Eben sang “You alone art worthy”. This particular track had been on the airwaves for a while but it was so full of the annointing when I heard it live. Next was the song “Jesus how I love you” and the atmosphere was thick with God’s awesome presence. People were practically “slain” in the spirit. Its not every day you attend a gospel concert and see people fall on their knees, weeping uncontrollably. Again, I really wished I could just stop covering the event and fall on my knees. I mean, folks were weeping and wailing….. . At this point I looked at Eben and he was in tears, uncontrollably weeping under the power of the Holy Spirit on stage. This isn’t normal, this is God! That’s how you know a true worshiper. He’s not afraid nor ashamed to express emotions in worship to God.
Guys, I don’t know if you’ve ever been there, where you just forget yourself, cast your burdens, mess up your make-up, roll on the floor and just let the tears flow…….under extravagant worship. This was it. Nothing else mattered.
With tears, Eben spoke about the need for God to be truly worshiped and how gospel music should be genuine and not commercialized. He also spoke some deep truths which I just had to write down. I was struck when he said “No matter how long God lives with u, he is not a family member until you receive him” while I was still pondering on that, he said again” The quality of your spirit is d quality of your life”. Then he continued in worship with the song “You are more than life to me, how great are you Lord….so great” One by one, the worship songs kept coming. “Onye Nwem” and “Your grace” sent the crowd into more worship. The concentration of the power and annointing of God was so overwhelming. It was one of those worship moments you wish will just go on and on.
Next up was Jahdiel. She started with a beautiful rendition of “My redeemer lives” that would have even made Nicole Mullen jealous. Lolll.
Then she showed the crowd that she is very much in touch with her native side with the song “Obulu Jesú”. Next up…..you guessed it ” This one na my heritage, this one na my culture, this one na my tradition, I go follow Jesus….” All she had to do was introduce her hit song and the crowd literarily sang the rest of the song for her.
Now it was time to wrap up the concert and Eben returns on the stage with fire in his eyes. It was time to release some energy! and this time, he did it with some help from the Rock Image choir.
The instrumentalists were ready…………………
This time, Eben had to pull his suit. Frankly, this was the moment I had been waiting for. The atmosphere was charged as he sang “All the way”. At this point, it was no holds barred as the crowd came up front to the stage to dance and dance and dance and really dance. It was a full blown party now as everyone including young, old, man, woman, children all danced to the song and with that the concert finally came to an end. Now, I’ll just get out of your way and allow you to enjoy the pictures…..
I just hope I did justice to this post for those of ya’ll who missed it especially my Mama, Pastor M, but believe me, you just had to be there. A big congrats to Eben for a successful concert. Indeed, he went “All the way”.
NEXT UP on JMBlog…..
What’s all this row about fashola “deporting” people here and there. I’ll share my view on this.
Thats all for now guys. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to stay tuned for more. Remember, “Every man will have his day”
