Hmmmm….where do I start. For the first time, I’m actually almost confused as to how to start a blog post. Believe me, Its not ‘cos I’m fatigued or anything, its just that I’m still wondering how to articulate the person of MK in words. Guys, there are singers……and there are ministers! and that exactly who MK is.
Kennedy Ogeleka (MK) is one worship leader I cant get tired of. I’ve been pondering on the exact words with which to describe him and one that readily comes to my mind is that he is a worshiper that literarily “sings his heart out” to God. Its rare to find such a kind these days where gospel music has been so commercialized. MK’s ministrations carry the very power and presence of God. With him, worship comes natural. Its like his second nature. You only need to see him on stage once to be convinced.
Its popularly said that artistes carry an air of pride around them but MK is one of the few gospel artistes I know who has rubbished that theory. He’s as gentle as he looks but not when it comes to music and certainly not when it comes to worship. He’s a praise addict and a worship fanatic. If theres anything I’ve learnt about him too is that he is not moved by the crowd. He would minister with the same annonting and energy if he was ministering to one person as so he would if he was leading worship in a packed-out stadium. For him, its all about God.
I personally fell in love with MK’s heart-rendering song Arugbo Ojo. If you have not heard it, please by all means do. As a matter of fact, the song carries so much anointing when sang that I marvelled at the way the song blessed my spirit even before I knew its meaning!. Isn’t that just like the anointing people!…….its breaks language barriers and ministers unhindered. Arugbo Ojo – meaning Ancient of Days, is a heartcry of a creature to his Creator in awe of His awesome Majesty. MK wrote this song is an attempt at expressing the Majestic Awesomeness of Jehovah our God. Its a song that captures special moments of fellowshipping with and worshipping God.
One more thing I love about MK……..he’s got an incredible fashion sense! Hey, who says the anointing is just for singing?
MK’s music pedigree is indeed intimidating. Just wait till you read about him in full below at the bottom of this post.
Now, for those of you wondering what heaven will sound like when we get there, Join MK on August 25, 2013 as he hosts the worship concert…. “SOUND OF HEAVEN”.
It’s a highly anticipated worship concert which has been dubbed as one that will make Heaven kiss the earth and it will feature the creme déla creme of gospel artistes like SAMMIE OKPOSO, THE ROCK IMAGE, PITA, EBEN, KENNY KORE, FREKE, EFE, ACCAPELLA, ONOS, SACO, BABAH KAY,etc
The Excitement is Everywhere!
All across the land, people can no longer wait for the concert. The noise is already everywhere!
I got to see MK’s humorous side when I listened as he spoke about the concert on Wazobia FM a couple of days back when while he was giving out free tickets on air, he said that who ever answered a couple of questions will become “the winner or the winnee”. loll .
Even some of the guest artistes cant wait as Sammie Okposo tweets…………………
Red carpet and the main event starts by 4pm.
As usual, JM Blog will be live at the concert to bring you all the details so make sure you re-visit this site.
Kennedy Ogeleka or MK (as he is fondly called by The Rock Image Choir of DCC) was born into a family of christians. The 6th of 10 children, he grew up knowing, loving and serving God. As a little child, MK found his calling when he was asked to not join the kiddies choir at age 7; the pain and emptiness he felt as he watched other kids sing and glorify God was unexplainable. From that day he knew it was either music or nothing, he had found his purpose, this was what he was called to do – to serve God with the gift of music.
As a young teen, he joined the teens choir and learnt how to play the drums and ass guitar and after mastering these instruments, he self tutored himself on he piano. Shortly after that, he discovered his singing ability and he started to sing. He would spend 8hrs daily on voice training/rehearsals and still does his voice rehearsals till date. This throws light on the incredibly strong tones and pitches we hear from MK in each of his ministrations. He has never looked back.
MK has worked with gospel singers like Hope Davies and mentored by Sammie Okposo for whom he has been a background vocalist for almost 8 years. He has travelled wide (Africa and Europe) to answer his calling. While working with Sammie Okposo, MK has done background vocals for international gospel acts Donnie Mcklurkin, Ron Kenoly and Detrick Haddon; MK has paid his dues and matured as a gospel singer. MK has shared the same stage with gospel artistes PITA, Eben, Freke, Nathaniel Bassey, also Donnie Mcklurkin, Cece Winans, Micah Stampley, Israel Houghton, Detrick Haddon, Fred Hammond, Chevelle Franklin, Kirk Franklin to mention a few. MK is a tool in Gods hands to take Gods praises and put on the lips of all nations.
He’s been the Music Director of Davids Christian Centre’s choir for more than 5 years and today, he has mentored many in gospel music. His ability to write and produce hit songs for himself and for other people makes him a very rare talent.
Happily married to his best friend and covenant partner Ebele, they have the most amazing daughter Kendra.
